The lightfast grade of inks mainly depends on pigments, normally the process cyan and process black has high lightfast grade 7-8, but other two colors magenta and yellow is low, the lightfast for magenta is 5 and yellow is 4-5, so these two colors will fade if the printings are under lights for long time. Besides, the lightfast performance will be different indoors and outdoors,  the printings outdoors should have higher resistance, not only lightfast, but also weather-resistance.

Checklist for Light fastness

From the above checklist, if customers want printings with 30-60days lightfast, the inks used should be with light fastness grade 5 or higher.  For outdoor condition, if inks' light fastness is 5, the printings lightfast days will be around 90days; light fastness is 6, the corresponding printing lightfast length are 6months; if light fastness is 7, the printings lightfast length is more than 10months, and light fastness is 8, the printings lightfast length will be more than 1 year. But the conditions outdoors are very different and changeable, so the above data is for reference.

Inks' light fastness is also relevant to pigment content in inks, normally if pigment content decreases, the light fastness of inks will be lower, so it is necessary to test the lightfast effort for light-color inks before using.

Attention: For spot color(special color) mixing, if the printings will be coated or laminated, it is necessary to use those base inks with higher resistance to acid, Alkali, Solvent to make color mixing, then check the resistance test before bulk using.
